Crystallized Glass Panel
Wet Laying Installation
Because the expansion coefficient of crystallized glass panel is 5.5x10-6/¡æ, while cement mortar is 10x10-6/¡æ, after the cement hardens, it will generate the ¡°dry and shrink effect¡± which will increase the stress of the adhesive interface. If the wet laying method is not properly applied, it may cause to crack and damage the crystallized glass panel.
1. Laying
a. For the flooring, it¡¯s highly recommended to use tile adhesive instead of cement. It can save the laying thickness in order to have more construction space and prevent the glass panel from cracking and damaging during usage.
b. Painting the backside of the crystallized glass panel in 300x300mm pane with a 3-5cm wide painting brush. The purpose is to divide the possible high stress on the whole panel in large square meter for the painting strips reduce the sticking strength with the cement.
c. Before the pavement, use the dry wax (usually use the candle) to seal the four edges of the crystallized glass panel to reduce the form of the black edge.
d. During the installation, in order to keep the flatness of the whole surface and the coincide of the juncture, the delectation of work craft must be paid special attention.
e. After finish the pavement, clean the gaps between the panels and stick color marking paper around the panel. Then choose the right gap-filling material to fill up the gap.
f. It¡¯s strongly suggested to leave at least 2mm joint between the glass panels. It¡¯s because the size variation of the cutting tile is 1mm. If the joint is less than 2mm to 1mm, unless pay much attention to avoid the misplace situation, otherwise it will be 10 tiles accumulate to 10mm misplace under utmost condition.
g. The floor should leave 10-20mm gap away to the wall determined by the size of the room. The gap can be filled with flexible materials such as glass sealant.
h. During installation, if already caused the scratch on the surface and fill in dirt, should clean it by hydrochloric acid mixed with double or triple water. The worker should wear glasses and rubber glove and use clean dry cloth or even tooth brush. After the cleaning area become white again, wipe out the acid liquid then wash by abundant water several times.
i. After the installation, cover and fix the thick cardboard or sandwich plate on the glass panel surface to prevent the fade of shining caused by sand weariness from walking. Glass panel is covered by the plastic film for protection. The film need to be cut about 5-10mm on edges before installation.
j. For irregular size, the glass panel is more easy to crack along with the groove and concave edge especially while the over cut happened during cutting. To avoid this, it¡¯s suggested to cover the over cut edge and backside of the concave area with resin such as epoxy resin adhesive.
2. Cutting
Owing to the high hardness of crystallized glass panel, the cutting must be properly performed in order to avoid the cracking of the edges. The cutting usually should be conducted on the highly stable desk-saw, with sharp, famous brand of blade and enough water. After cutting, don¡¯t drags the panel back from the saw table, instead, take it down directly from the other side of the saw table. Use the grinding machine to make it smoothly. If use the portable electric saw, it must be cut by the professional technician in two times.
